The trip should be more clearly titled so that people know it’s an inshore excursion. Also, for the price, we expected to catch more fish. The captain was nice and knowledgeable, but we were expecting more.
Mr. Gardner,
Thank you for your review and for providing follow up information via our phone conversation related to the poor review. As you indicated to me in our phone conversation you thought you were going offshore for 2 hours to fish and this charter took place in the back bay next to the marina. You also stated your wife booked the trip and it sounds like that may have lead to the confusion of staying inshore for a “Beginner Fishing Trip” and not going offshore to fish. You indicated in the review “the trip should be more clearly titled”. The following is exactly how Alabama Coastal Charters markets the trip on FishingBooker. (Copied and Pasted) PRIVATE TRIP 2 Hour - Beginner Trip (AM) FREE Cancellation before September 10, 2018 2 hours trip, starts at 7:00 AM US$ 295 up to 4 persons Instant Book You won’t be charged yet Show trip details New for 2018- We listened to your request! This 2 hour trip is designed for kids or beginner anglers. This trip targets smaller fish that are almost always hungry and takes place in the calm back bay waters. I want families to experience the first fishing trip together so I do not charge an extra angler charge on this trip (4 people included). As a bonus, we do this trip in an area where Bottle Nose Dolphins are often spotted. I can do this trip AM or PM so take the KIDS fishing!
I am sorry you misunderstood what type of trip your wife booked. But, as far as a “2 Hour Beginner Fishing Trip” you received a “Five Star” trip. You caught a 32” Bull Redfish, numerous Mangrove Snapper, and a number of Speckled Trout. Further, this was a two hour trip and captain Doug kept you out an additional hour at no cost to you so you would have the opportunity to fish under the pier lights for Speckled trout. As far as a “2 hour ride with Capt Butler”, I can only assume you were referring to the 10 minute no wake zones each direction to and from where you fished from the marina . The no wake zones are regulated by the US Coast Guard and are just like speed zones on the highway. If we go above no wake we are ticketed. As soon as you passed those zones Captain Doug had you fishing.
Again, I do appreciate you taking the time to discuss the negative review and providing me with some understanding as to why we didn’t meet your expectation. I do believe we will meet your expectations in the future if we both are on the same page with the type of trip that is booked. Safe travel home and I hope you will give Alabama Coastal Charters another opportunity to earn your business.
Captain Mitchell Davis

I hate you were disappointed with the trip. The Inshore bite has been slow since tropical storm Cristobol came ashore. It dumped many inches of fresh water into the bay and rivers to the north. When the salinity changes like that the fishing can be tough. Saltwater fish don’t like fresh water. You caught an excellent tide that morning which makes the trip that much more disappointing. We will do everything we can to provide a better experience if you chose to fish with us again. Safe travel home.
