Summer is my favorite time of the year to fish Flamingo. The bugs, rain, and heat tend to keep other boats off the water and that means less pressure and phenomenal consistent fishing. On top of that it just seems like the more rain we get the more energized the fishing gets. The snook bite has been great around the full moon. We caught double digit numbers of snook, redfish, and even finished the day off with a cooler full of mangrove snappers to cook up at the restaurant. The rain is a welcome relief from the heat and there's no bugs on the water just on land. The sharks have been really bad lately so reeling fast and getting the fish in quick is necessary this time of year.

This last week was pretty tough with lots of overcast days and a deluge of rain. We're just now starting to come out of it and the fishing has been on fire! Lots of snook and reds around Flamingo and plenty of bonefish and tarpon in Biscayne when the winds are favorable. This time of year things start to slow down as most tourists opt to go north to escape the heat. This relieves some of the pressure on the water and makes for phenomenal fishing days. In my opinion the fishing is best throughout the summer because there are less boats on the water. The fish have space now to relax and some epic days are definitely in the forecast. Fishing has been hit or miss recently in Biscayne Bay. One day it's on fire and epic fishing and the next day it's completely dead. I recommend booking multiple days if looking for a slam in Biscayne Bay. Biscayne Bay is a challenging fishery if you are fishing with fly you should be able to cast 360 forward and backhand casts, and also know how to double haul well. Please be able to cast most of your fly line if booking a fly trip. Casting reasonably far and accurately is so key to success. Spinning on the other hand is a bit easier but saying it's easy is an understatement. You still should know how to cast accurately, and a reasonable distance. As far as the Everglades goes in Flamingo fishing is great! May & June are great for successful snook trips. Redfish are available early mornings and tarpon doable under certain conditions.
