Bull Sharks, Lemons, Blacktips, and Grou

Big congrats to Bryson who landed this massive Goliath Grouper. We managed to coax him out of the big hole he was stuck in, and pulled him up to fully appreciate the size of this massive beautiful beast. What a great battle, and a healthy release for this big bruiser of a fish. Great day on the water - come out, and take on a Goliath here in Key West.

May is a great month to fish. The first week has been amazing. Key West offers a mixed bag this time of year, and I've been fishing almost daily. The big tarpon have been rolling, and eating live baits. We've caught half a dozen with the largest going around 150. The angler had been on twelve tarpon trips, and got his first big one. The tarpon bite has been good, and the sharks have been chewing as well. We've landed big lemon sharks, bull sharks, and black tip sharks among other species. Some smaller bonnet head sharks, and sharpnose sharks have been fun light tackle action as well. The weather is great, and the days are long, but it's worth it to land a big one. In addition to tarpon and sharks, the mangrove snapper bite at night has been very good. Targeting snapper at night allows for some time to catch juvenile tarpon and is a nice cooler experience as the temperatures rise. Goliath grouper have been big in the back country basin of the gulf. Anglers have landed 50-100lb fish, and I’m still on the quest for a couple of the bigger 300-400+ lb fish with some new heavy tackle purchased specifically for this purpose. It’s a beautiful day to be alive - the sun is shining, and the fish are biting. The maverick mirage got upgraded to a 2200 Tournament edition Pathfinder. We can now accommodate up to 4 anglers for shark, grouper, snapper, and other fishing trips. The new year started great with Ryan, and Shelly catching 4/6 sharks, and some VERY big goliath grouper bites. Sam called me for a last minute trip, and we got out and caught a small goliath grouper, some sharks, and some snapper. On another recent trip Nick caught a nice lemon shark, and some grunts and snappers. The fishing in key west is great because we don’t need a full day and eight hours to get into some action 4 -5 hour trips seem to be great on the new bay boat allowing plenting of time for catching and not taking the entire day away from time in Key West.
