Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here this week we had some pretty good fishing although the winds were strong and the ocean was rough if you stuck it out it payed off nicely. Early in the week we had some very strong winds making the seas around 4-6 feet out there although it was rough that type of weather makes for pretty good fishing. The name of the game this week was trolling normally in the winter months we would be doing a lot of kite fishing in those type of conditions but bait is hard to come by as the summer approaches. Trolling from 200-400 feet seemed to be where all the action was this week. We were just a few days before the full moon which is usually a good indication for wahoo and that it was. We landed a few nice wahoo this week while trolling on our deep lines. Other then wahoo we seen a good amount of blackfin tuna this week while trolling, majority of our bites on those were on surface baits but fishing small lures like 2 inches long. Most of the tuna we been catching lately have had very small squids and fish in there stomachs so it makes the best sense to use something for bait similar to what we are seeing in there bellies. Majority of the tuna have been around 5-7lbs with a few as big as 15lbs. Other then wahoo and blackfin tuna we saw a few mahi mahi this week and i believe that is due to the heavy winds which in turn brought them in. It is a little bit early in the season for mahi right now which is why we haven't been getting a lot of numbers more just picking at them but any keeper mahi is a good mahi. Last but not least later in the week when the winds calmed down we seen a nice little flurry of kingfish while trolling the reefs edge. Majority of the bites have been on our deep lines but nice to see a good variety of fish biting. Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here with another great deep sea fishing report for you guys, but first id like to take a second and wish everyone a happy Memorial Day. Now time for the fishing, so for this week it has been a some what windy week here in south Florida but i believe this is the weather we needed to get the fishing back to where it was. Earlier in the week we had a good catch of mahi mahi offshore that were caught on scattered weed lines, but as it got later in the week they seem to have been hard to come by in numbers, the only mahi we are seeing right now are just solo fish or ones and twos. The size has been excellent with most mahi around 5-8lbs and a few larger in the mix. I would imagine we would start to see some more mahi action as we get closer towards the summer. Next species that was good this week was kingfish. This year has been a tricky one on kingfish some days there here and other days they have been hard to come by, but this week we were picking at them the whole week. Majority of our bites have been shallow or just on the edge of the reef in depths around 100 feet or so. All of our kingfish bites have been coming on our down lines or lines under the surface. Blue and white sea witches have been our go to color this week because there has been a surplus of flying fish in the area and that color combination matches them the best. The kingfish have been nice sized average fish close to 10lbs. Next on the list this week is blackfin tuna, which have been very prevalent anyhwere from 300-180 feet of water and have been biting surface and below surface baits. For some reason this week morning trips have been good but afternoons have been better for tuna, which probably has to do with the tides. They have been mixed sized anywhere from 5-15lbs with a few larger fish too. Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here from the command center. Its been another great week of deep sea fishing here in Fort Lauderdale. I have a great report this week starting of with tuna. We have been having some really nice catches of blackfin tuna while trolling just on the drop off. This week we did manage to catch a blackfin tuna that was 31lbs (pictured) which is the biggest one caught aboard to YB Normal. The blackfin tuna bite right now has been the best in the afternoon time with bigger fish being caught on live bait, while trolling produces all sizes. Anywhere from 200-350 feet has been the best depths. Other then tuna this week we had a decent showing of mahi mahi offshore trolling. Some of the mahi where very nice sized around 10lbs give or take. Looking for birds has always been the ticket when mahi fishing although there has been a good amount of seaweed out there and that is a good place to start. As we get closer to the summer months i believe the mahi fishing will only get better from here. Moving inshore, earlier in the week we had a great kingfish bite. When the water is green in color that seems to be when they bite the best. When the water is blue they are hard to find. Mixed in with the kingfish has been some jumbo bonitos starting to show up although they are not good eating they are the most important thing to our deep sea fishing charters. They give us fresh bait which in return helps you catch more fish. Also on the reef this week we did see a few sailfish which is always great to catch, they are a lot more prevalent in the winter months but we do catch them year round. Catching a sailfish is always a great way to put the icing on the cake as they say to any sport fishing charter. Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here back with another great Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report for you this week. So this week we didn't get out as much as we had liked because we were doing some minor repairs on the engine which happens when you fish as much as we do, on the good news we are fixed and have a bunch of bookings coming up. The few days that we did fish this week were great and thats to be expected this time of year. As for the report this week we had some really great dolphin fishing earlier in the week around 10 miles offshore there was a very nice weed line with plenty of life, but just recently the wind had changed to a North West which is very rare for this time of year and that weed line broke apart which in turn made the dolphin fishing almost non existent for now but they should begin to pick back up later in the weeks coming up. Moving inshore a little bit when the conditions are right the blackfin tuna have been biting very well, early mornings and late afternoons, which have been the best time to get out. Fishing with live bait has been the best way to catch the biggest ones. We did manage to catch a blackfin tuna this week that was 31lbs which is the largest one ever caught on the YB Normal. Other then blackfin tuna we did see a pretty good showing of wahoo this week. Wahoo is a fan favorite to catch as well as to eat, I personally think that wahoo is one of the best fish to eat that we catch. Making sushi with it being the best. Last but not least the kingfish have showed up in good numbers trolling the reef with fresh bonito strips, its been quite a while since kingfish have been around in any type of numbers. Kingfish make good table fair and are a lot of fun to catch, but keep in mind they do not hold up well if frozen. Pretty much the only thing you can do with them after you freeze them is smoke them for fish dip. Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here with the YB Normal. For this week I have a great report for you, the theme continues as of last weeks report with excellent fishing. This week we had some great weather to go along with our deep sea fishing. To start it off the trolling bite has began to be very productive for species like kingfish. They have begun to show up in larger numbers just off the coast in shallow depths from 80-140 feet. Majority of the fish have been smaller sized but thats to be expected with the first wave of fish, they should continue to get larger as we get closer to summer. Staying on the reef the sailfish seem to have taken a break, although it is getting to the end of there season some fish will stay around for a while and some will leave, kite fishing wont be as common of a way to target the sailfish it will mostly transition to trolling baits. Moving a little bit deeper the blackfin tuna bite has been very steady recently when the water is blue to purple color. Some days the water is green and those days tuna are hard to come by. When we have blue water usually that means north current which would be a spin off of gulfstream water and those days we seem to have the best results fishing for tuna. Most of the tuna have been around 10lbs average but fishing live baits has been the best way to catch larger tuna close to 30lbs. Last but not least for offshore species the mahi mahi have been plentiful but the sizes have been mixed. A lot of fish on the smaller size but there are some keeper size as well. This is great news because last year they didn't show till later summer early fall and now we are getting them in early summer, who knows it could be a great year for them. One thing i can say with the mahi right now and this happened to us on a recent charter is make sure to have some rods rigged to cast to the mahi incase they swim up to the boat, last week on a charter we were bottom fishing around 400 feet and a turtle came up and it was full of mahi, luckly we have rods rigged at all times but if we didn't we might of missed that chance. We ended up catching 15 mahi but only 8 keeper size but if we weren't prepared thats 8 less fish we could of caught. Hopefully that fishery gets better and better as summer approaches. Hello there Capt. Vinnie with the YB Normal here, for another great Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report. This week we had some great deep sea fishing trips with lots of different species caught. Last weeks report i was talking about how windy it had been and there was a break coming, this week was that break in the wind. Starting off the report this week with sailfish. I would have to say this year i personally think has been one of the best years i have seen for sailfish. Almost every trip we have been catching one and some trips multiple sailfish. Trolling has been productive for them as well as fishing with live bait on the days its very windy. Mixed in with the sailfish specially on days we are kite fishing there has been some quality mahi mahi. Normally in this area we catch mahi very regularly in the summer and fall months but its nice to see a spring run of fish with some size. Next species that has been pretty hot is blackfin tuna, coming up in the next month is when we tend to see our biggest tunas of the year. When i say big im talking close to 30lbs, now blackfin tuna don't get as big as yellowfin or even bluefin tuna but they do fight hard and taste great on the grill or even sushi style. Trolling in the early mornings has been productive for a few bites on tuna before 9am but after that seems that the bite shuts off and then picks back up around 3pm in the afternoon. Tuna have big eyes and are sensitive to light so we tend to see best results when the sun is low either rising or setting. Also this week we had a few really calm days that we were able to do some bottom fishing for snapper. Small pieces of structure in depths around 350 feet were the most productive on the larger vermillon snappers. Anywhere from 2-4lbs was the average size on the snappers which for this type of snapper is excellent because a huge one would be around 5lbs. We love to go bottom fishing on our charters but remember that sometimes the conditions don't always line up for that type of fishing like currents, winds, etc. When everything is right best believe if bottom fishing is hot that is something we will be doing on your trip.
