- Miss Judy Charters is a family-owned business, “chasing as well as catching fish since 1948!” Captain Judy Helmey’s father, Capt. Sherman Helmey was one of the first charter boat companies to be recognized in Savannah, Georgia. Capt. Judy took over the business in the seventies. She is still running it today, loves every minute of it, and retirement is the furthest thing from her mind. In our world, the word “Judy” is truly a name that is associated with “fishing as well as catching!”

- A Little about our inshore light-tackle trips on 21 foot boats and offshore bottom fishing and trolling Our inshore boats are approximately 21 feet long. They are open (no shade from the sun) shallow draft boats that are prefect for light tackle fish. The fishing is very good for red fish, spotted sea trout, flounder, shark, tripletail, tarpon, jack Crevalle, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, whiting, croaker, black drum, Sheepshead, and assortment of fetish fish. (Captain’s definition of a fetish fish: Small mouth fish that destroys good live shrimp my nipping only at the smaller parts such as the tail and legs.) This is a great fishing trip for those that don’t want to have any motion from the ocean. The inshore boas can comfortably accommodate up three to four fishermen each. This allows plenty of room in the casting department and doesn’t put too many corks in the same fishing hole. All inshore captains have both spinning and bait casting reels on board. Depending on the bite pattern for the day you could find yourself using live, fresh dead, or artificial bait. Our area is known for using the traditional trout rig, which always is everyone’s favorite. I guess it’s true a lot of us like to see the “sinking of the cork!” For those that like to just use the artificial stuff or just plain old, but affective bottom fishing our fish are very accommodating. Miss Judy Charter’s inshore captains always do their best to stay with the fish’s migrating, moving, and feeding habits. After all it’s their job! Our offshore boats offer bottom fishing and trolling from near shore to the blue water of the gulf stream. Our bottom fishing in the waters off Savannah, Georgia can be very interesting from large grouper to red snapper to black sea bass to vermillion to trigger fish to white grunt as well as many other biter..as far as trolling our coast holds the attention of king and Spanish mackerel little tunny cobia sharks amberjack, Jack crevalle barracuda, mahi mahi etc... as far as what might bite your hook depends on the amount of hours booked....
