Captain Erwin and Mate Felipe worked extremely hard to get us on fish. They were constantly changing out for fresh bait, changing out the teasers, and constantly scanning for the Kites (birds) to indicate fish. They never took a break. They wanted fish to be caught. If you read the chart for offshore fishing, only three species are in the area in November. We caught two Barracuda. Mid spring until early fall numerous species are available including sport fish.
There were at least 6 other hits but nothing else hooked. One misnomer from what I am accustomed to is “bottom fishing”. The boat continually trolls, but what seemed to be at reduced RPM’s and in shallower water over the reefs. (I suspect it is illegal to anchor or drop lines directly over the reef).
When there is a hit, the Captain or Mate set the hook and then all you do is reel it in. I prefer feeling or seeing the hit myself, setting the hook or missing it is then entirely up to me.
I can’t imagine a crew working harder or more diligently to catch fish and please the customer. Both were very pleasant and tried to keep us engaged.
Suggestion would be take a cushion to set on the fiberglass seats. With any kind of swell it’s hard on a skinny butt. Weather was fantastic, with one small rain outburst.
