Great captain and crew. Very friendly and knew how to catch fish.
Thank you for the 5 star review for John and Fin I posted it on the company board .
Only baby Halibut. Salmon fishing small pinks. Nice people but fishing sucked. Canceled 2nd day. The whole thing cost a lot of money and felt like a huge waste. I will never come back to fish here
It’s very important to know the law regarding the rules placed on Charter boats by the Federal Government, NOAA petaling to Halibut size and weight and bag limits and rules in place on the retention of King Salmon by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. A Charter boat proving Halibut Charters is required to have a permit to take clients Halibut fishing. If a Charter boat wants to purchase a permit the cost for that permit will cost them between $30,000.00 to $70,000.00, this cost has to be passed onto the client, that’s why there is a price different between fishing for Salmon and fishing for Halibut. The next issue is that NOAA changes the size of Halibut each year, 2019 clients on Charter boats are required to release all Halibut between 38 to 80 inches. A 37 inch Halibut weighs 22.7 pounds, that is the maximum weight that you can keep or a fish over 80 inches which are very rare. Clients must make a decision to keep the Halibut they catch or release it unharmed, we ask them if they want it or keep fishing trying to catch one close to 37 inches. If your planing on loading up on 100 of pounds of Halibut like you would before 2012 when these rules were placed on the Alaska Charter boats, it’s not going to happen. All of Southeast Alaska have these rules, other parts of Alaska like Homer have different rules. On 8/1 the Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued an order for the no retention of King Salmon for non residents until 9/15/19, Bill had to release a large King. Our Coho Salmon is a lot slower than normal and the fist week of August is normally the best time for Cohos. I can understand that Bill would be upset with his Alaska experiences but to say that he cancelled his second day because of a poor charter is not what he told me. I received a call from him at 7:30 am advising me that his wife was ill and that he had a bad knee from a fall at the place they were staying and he wanted to cancel. When we accept a multi day charter we collect all the money before and if someone cancels they lose the full amount and according to his statement he cancelled because he was not happy with his experience, I charged him a $200.00 cancelation fee because I felt he was being honest with me. Our Captain and crew traveled 50 miles out to Icy Straight to find good sized Halibut where the bite has been very strong and then fished Home shore trying to get into a good Coho run, I fell my crew worked hard to find him fish and we do not deserve this kind of review.
