Overall Rating I would give the trip a 2.

As a persion Fil is a 4 and the kind of person you want as your next door neighbor.

Pros - Polite, Waited at dock when GPS gave wrong location, patient with my 15 year old Grandson on his first guided trip ever. Very safe driver, Toadfish gear, brought variety of bait (cut ladyfish, Menhaden, Croaker, Dead shrimp,pp Nice quality boat, fished 5 locations BUT….

Cons - Arrived tired felt like almost canceled trip on the phone. Didn’t seem confident and couldnt “find fish” and only fishes grass beds inshore near JFK Cosway or King Ranch shore. (Too dependent on the grass beds to produce fish) As a “Professional Guide” one should know what bait and structure type is producing fish. And if the structure type is only producing hardheads be prapared to change to other structure like oysterbeds, rocks, drop offs, manmade structure, saltgrass flats, etc. During conversation it was made clear Fil doesn’t guide “nearshore” in slightly deeper water or in the saltgrass flats of Aransas Bay area due to game warden/police hassles? When leaving the dock Fil stated he “Hopes to get Reds, Black Drum, Trout.” A guide should know what structure is producing and exactly what bait the fish are feeding on versus throwing a variety of baits in hopes of figuring it out. And when hardheads are the only thing hitting dead cut Skipjack and dead shrimp change the structure type not just location.

Fil spent way too much time trying to rock or push the boat off the bottom in a few feet of water, this happened in 3 of the 5 grass beds fished. Makes the common mistake of using large Kale and Circle hooks versus smaller Circle hooks. This results in more Catfish swallowing hooks and potential damage to undersized sports fish.

Conclusion - needs more experience as a Professional Fishing Guide. Feels like an everyday fisherman with a commercial license using a variety of bait hoping to discover what the fish are feeding on in one type of structure. If Reds, Drum, Trout aren’t being produced a GUIDE must be prepared to “target” another species of fish before leaving the dock. Otherwise the customer is just “renting” a boat, driver, equipment and bait which is pretty much what the trip was.

Fil would make anyone a great neighbor, he has a massively nice disposition and has a very special place in his heart for his family. Needs more varied experience.
