2 days with Captain Jon Mahan
ПодтвержденныйCaptain Jon Mahan did not provide us with an enjoyable experience. We were scheduled and fished with him two days in a row for a fishing tournament. We fished with him last year for the same tournament and he acted as though he never met us and had never heard of the fishing tournament. I will take the blame in that I did not call him ahead of time to let him know that we’d be fishing artificial bait and that more than likely we’d be wade fishing as we did the year prior with some success. He made the assumption that we were going to be fishing with live bait and throughout both days acted as if he wouldn’t be able to adapt because he was not properly informed ahead of time. Midway through the first day of fishing, Captain Mahan was taking us to a new spot and wasn’t able to account for a wave as we slowly rose to the top. The boat instantaneously turned sideways and all of us were thrown into the water going full speed. Amazingly, no one was hurt in the process, but we were stranded and treading water in our waders with all of our belongings on a boat that steadily was drifting away. Captain Mahan wasn’t wearing his safety kill switch, which put us in an extremely dangerous situation after being thrown from the boat. We were eventually able to retain the boat and all our belongings by swimming to shore and stumbling across a great American that returned us to the boat. The following morning he picked us up and acted as though it was business as usual, and we were going to “get it today” after only catching a few keepers before getting tossed the day before. We had an extra angler on the second day, and he determined that it would be best to fish out of the boat for 3/4ths of the day. Above all else, what upset me the most was he never apologized to us after being thrown out of his boat going 30+ mph, and throughout both days, he never took the time to learn any of our names. Otherwise, referring to each of us as “Boss”, and all the while shrugging off any mention of our light hearted jokes from the previous days’ escapades. When it came down to payment, I asked what I owed him and he showed me the total. There was no discount applied for putting us in a situation that could’ve gone in the complete opposite direction. I paid him the full amount, to which he reminded me to give him a call ahead of time before next year’s tournament as though he actually thought we’d use him as our fishing guide again.

I am very sorry that you did not have a great experience on your trip. I go over & above each and every time to put my customers on fish & to help them enjoy the experience. It is unfortunate that this was not the case with your charter. As far as the tournament goes, it definitely helps a guide to know that there is in fact a tournament, that the tournament requires certain rules (artificial only), and that wade fishing will be a requirement. Had I known ahead of time, scouting for that specific purpose would have taken place prior to your charter. As previously stated, I always want my customers to catch fish and have a good time. As far as not knowing your names and calling you, “Boss,” well that is just a nickname that I call many of my customers and friends. It was not intended to be anything but friendly. Finally, in all of my years of chartering, I have never had a customer go into the water (although I know that this does sometimes happen). It was an extremely rare and odd occurrence. The rouge wave literally just came out of nowhere. My very first order of business was to ask if everyone was okay, and thankfully you all were. Even though it was out of my control, I did apologize, and I will again. I am very sorry that it happened. I am glad that things went better on our second day of fishing. In fact, I’m not sure that you didn’t end up winning/placing in the tournament. I offered to fish longer than normal the following day, and I am offering to take you fishing on your tournament again for FREE next year. I pride myself on putting customers on fish & helping them to have a good time. I am sorry that this was not the case on your trip.
