A video by Captain Bud helped us decide to book with Mighty Fine: There was no Captain Bud. Our captain was a hateful old man who used our 31st anniversary to strike up a conversation with other captains about prenuptial agreements. We had to listen to this as we fished.
We let the Captain know that we really wanted to “target Mahi Mahi” as the Mighty Fine’s ad claims. He told us that ‘Mahi Mahi are hard to find and hard to catch so…..hem and haw…...and you know…..and so on….. and…maybe we’ll try and maybe not…...”
Did I misunderstand the purpose of booking a charter? THAT’S WHAT THE $1880 IS FOR!!
At one point in the day, I actually spotted a Mahi Mahi that came to the surface right at the stern of the boat. Rather than switching gear and tactics (we were bottom-fishing for Snapper), the boat was moved from the area so we could “Stay on them Mingo’s”
The deckhand was new to the area and the waters. He was completely unfamiliar with the tackle and gear onboard, but did the best he could. The gear was substandard and ancient. I wished I had brought my own.
We did not touch the live bait till the end of the day when we did some unproductive trolling with it as we approaced Destin. We burned off the last half hour of our day messing around with a school of 10” Trigger Fish that was clearly not going to produce a keeper.
My wife and I left our 8 hour day with five pounds of Vermilion Snapper fillets and a strong desire to get out and do some fishing of our own.

Thank you for fishing on the Mighty Fine! God Bless -Lin
