From the moment we arrived at the dock, we knew Captain Herb was the perfect person to lead our family on our first outing on the water. Captain was incredibly professional welcoming us onto the boat, providing safety gear for the children and talking us through how the morning was going to go. He was able to provide history on the area and give insight into the wildlife we’d see as we were on the boat. Despite cold weather and chilly waters, Captain Herb was able to guide us to catch 2 sharks! What a thrill. My family and I will never forget the experience and we’re so happy we went with Captain Herb for our trip. We will certainly book again in the future! Thank you!

My son and I booked a trip with Captain Herb during our stay at Hilton Head. This was our first fishing trip on the East Coast. It didn’t disappoint!  Captain Herb was there early and ready to go. We actually headed out 10 minutes early. Captain Herb was always in motion and didn’t wait long to find a better spot if the bites slowed down. We caught a few different varieties of sharks, up to 3 feet. It was a great time!

We went with Herb last year & had such a great time that we booked another trip for this year! We had another great experience!! Between the 4 of us, we caught 14 sharks today!! We also had dolphins swimming right up to the boat! Herb is a great guide & very knowledgeable. We will be booking again with him on our next trip to HH!! I highly recommend him!

After reading a ton of reviews and selecting our captain Herb, he didn’t let us down! Our initial sunset/shark trip was cancelled due to weather, but Herb was easy to communicate with and we rescheduled for another morning before leaving town. Took our boys & girl ( ages 6, 11, 12) out on the water for their first fishing excursion. They loved it! We didn’t catch much - hence fishing & not catching… He took us to various spots, used fish & squid as bait, but the fish/sharks just weren’t biting (choppy water, very windy, but a beautiful day still). My daughter reeled in a sting ray and we were able to see a dolphin playing around as well. Herb was knowledgeable, very good with the kids - helping them drop & reel. He even let our littlest toss out some bait to feed some gulls. We’d book with him again, no doubt! Thanks for a fun morning.

We’ve been coming to Hilton head twice per year for over 10 years now. This time we booked our first private fishing charter with Captain Herb. We had such a wonderful time and this experience made this particular trip the best yet. Our group included my parents, my son & daughter, my husband and me. Our ages ranged from 10 to 80. We opted for the 7:15AM time slot and I’m glad we did. The heat this time of year can be brutal and early morning is perfect. Herb was there to greet us and got us on the water right away. Our first stop was to catch some bait but luck was not on our side and the endeavors weren’t fruitful. No worries, the Captain came prepared. This part was a cool experience and a teachable moment for my kids. We promptly headed to our fishing spot and anchored down near Dafuskie. Within minutes of casting my husband reeled in the first catch, a small shark. The thing about fishing is there are good days and bad. You may be on the water all day without a single bite. This was a great day! We reeled in several shark species and some stingrays. This adventure exceeded our expectations and we can’t wait to do it again. Herb was such a nice and patient man. We could’ve left without a single bite and it still would’ve been a great trip because of his company. A booking with Herb and Fins Up will be a staple in all of our visits going forward.
