BlackH2oDog Charters offer a hands-on experience on Lake Erie! With Captain David at the helm, you’ll have the best guidance you could have asked for. He’s been fishing on Lake Erie for over 35 years and knows the best spots around the islands of the lake. As you can see from the photos, his trips are very family-friendly and kids are encouraged to participate as well.

You’ll be fishing on a 25’ Scout that accommodates up to 4 guests. This express cruiser has a fully enclosed helm that offers protection from wind and rain, so even a tricky weather won’t spoil your day. The boat is powered by a 250 HP Yamaha engine and features navigational electronics, a live bait tank, and a cooler.

Target Walleye any time from Late March to Thanksgiving (early December). Trolling is the primary method used to catch Ohio Walleye but you can also try with casting and drift fishing. Walleye over 28" are fairly common on Lake Erie, these Fish Ohio category Walleye can weigh 9 to 13 pounds. For the next few years, the average Walleye size will be 18" to 24". You’ll fish the open waters as well as reef structures in shallow and deep water. Besides Walleye, you can also catch Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass.

Capt. David covers your fishing equipment, so you don’t need to rent it. Just purchase your fishing license and bring your snacks and drinks. Kids of all ages are welcome to join. The captain loves to show newbies how to use the equipment and catch fish.

I have been fishing Lake Erie Islands for 35+ years. My father and I fished small streams and ponds when I was a young boy. As my interest grew, we grew our fishing experiences together eventually ending up targeting Lake Erie Walleye. We started in small boats and worked our way into tournaments. Competitive fishing changes your viewpoint on finding fish that will bite on any given day. You learn to adapt to the daily conditions. I have been first mating on boats for 25+ years. I enjoyed fishing and sharing my experiences with others each day.

Father-Son days are without a doubt one of my favorites. Tim and his Son Aaron jumped on board and we headed NW of the Islands to 34 fow. Although the screen was loaded with mayflies raising in the water column the Walleye were taking everything we showed them. Big Fish of the day came on an orange backed BADMO LURES Arrowhead spoon on dipsey 3 setting 45 back. Reef Runner Reed Stalker Jr's 30/30 held their own, but single Badmo Arrowhead Spinner crawler harnesses on TruTrip 40s and 50s 55 back was the hot setup. Paige reach out to arrange a charter for her father Mel and fiance Mike. The goal was to capture a nice box of eater size Walleye for upcoming fish dinners. The other goal was have a great day on the water. Speed of catch was no concern. These 1st time drift and cast anglers had Walleye hooked from the first cast until the last fish were coming over the boat rail. We gave up netting as fast as they were coming. Paige went on the board 1st with back to back eyes. But soon the playing field leveled. This trio had boxed 18 by our 2nd drift. They took a short hydration break and let me cast for mine. Then they went into catch and release mode. Even as the East waves built to 4 feet they still had them going. Splash to a 3 count with 3/4 oz was strong today. 25 fow PIB ferry lane. #blackh2odog #LakeErieFishing #lakeeriewalleye

Today started with an SBI pick-up with Bill and crew, who had previously fished with BlackH2oDog Charters. Bill, Georgie, David and Johnny watched a beautiful sunrise as we worked our way West of the Islands. This crewnas familiar with our Off Shore Tackle Company planner board program. We ran Spro 85s and Flicker Shad 20/40 with 2 oz. One Carrot Top Bandit 95 back. Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TruTrip 50s on the corners with BADMO LURES Arrowhead spoons and FJ7s. Dipsey 3 setting 42 and TruTrip 50s 35 back. We were in no rush to complete out limits, and we were all reelers today with plenty of catch and release.
