I called (left VM) the Capt 2 weeks (2x) prior to booking specifically to ask what fish were hitting, if I should book AM/PM and ask general questions about time of year to book a trip. Never heard back. I was in FL to visit my mom after the passing of my father, who fished with my mom often.. it was a chance to get her on some fish in FL away from home.
Booked an AM & based it decent reviews since I never heard back.
We had a colder morning with wind and caught 3 - 4 (small) fish we couldn’t keep & at the end Tyler stated something along the lines of “during these early cold mornings, the fish do not bite as much…”
This is where my review goes to the disappointment part, I fully understand it’s called “Fishing” not “Catching” and a captain, like Tyler, will do what he can to put someone on fish. My disappointment falls in the 2 calls/voicemails prior and 2 out of 3 emails not responded to (the response I did get was time confirmation & address for meeting). Had I gotten a call back and talked through it, I would have waited till April when I will be back down in FL.
Because of this, I feel like I booked a trip with a higher (possibility known) failure opportunity. It was still a good morning on the water with my mom and we enjoyed that.. My suggestion, do not book a charter until March/April and I have already met some Captains in the area that charge less and prepped me for the day I had (concerns about the fish).
I will fish again.. but I will more than likely go with someone I met who was open and fully prepped me for a slow day of fishing and recommend booking later in the spring (at that point to late to cancel w/refund) when more bait fish are present and migration is swing.. those are the things I was looking for in my calls.
