The pictures attached are from last year's Haddock/early Spring Season. Current, Haddock have started to come in and it looks to be a good start to the season. Red fish are still around in abundance too. Spring Cod is off the table. The Recreationally recommendations were not to have a Spring Cod catch due to how the numbers are for these fish. With the cold weather behind us and warmer weather beginning to come in, the Haddock catch will keep getting better. The later start to the season with the catch is due to the ocean temperatures. Right now the temps are about 45 degrees. With the first charters beginning tomorrow, Adventure and Catch will be on these guys for a great chowder, fish fry or anything else you can think of for a tasty meal at the end of the day.
On another note, I must ask all guests to please be aware, and to this I am speaking very open and honestly. Each year I set the prices as low as I can to earn an honest living and maintain the boat and all that goes with trying to run this business. This past year we ended with fuel at $3.84 per gallon of Diesel. The prices were trending down, and my election was only to raise rates to reflect maintenance and slip fee increases as insurance stayed flat for me. However, after the sea trial and fill up yesterday, I was in shock. In all the years of working this business, I have not seen the price of fuel like this. The current fuel price per gallon is $5.65 for Diesel. Due to this, a fuel surcharge will be added the day of the trip. Currently, this charge is $1.65 per gallon. On a 60 Gallon burn, that would be a $99 charge at the end of the trip.
On a side note, should a mate be on board and usually, I do not carry one, but if one is, he is working for Gratuity. Many of you do know this, but, at the moment with the start of the season, a mate will be onboard due to safety consideration and for the comfort of all guests. The industry standard is typically 20%.
Finally, many upgrades have been done to increase our success on the water. New for this year is the following: Brand new Sonar system and Lowrance 12" head unit with structure scan, down imagining and mapping a second transducer has been added. If a fish farts will see it! A new heat exchanger for engine reliability was added. A custom prop, pitched, cupped and tuned to the boat was added for additional speed and economy. A new 90:1 anchor/pot hauler was added to the boat along with a "second station" in the cockpit (fishing area of the boat) This includes steering and throttling and will make Tuna/Shark fishing better and even more successful. Many thanks go to the folks at Dover Marine in Dover New Hampshire for all they do to keep us safe on the water!
Looking forward to seeing you all out there on Big Blue and enjoying the memories, catches and smiles that will last a lifetime. - Capt. Andy
