What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Duluth, Minnesota for the first time?

Not every day is a ‘high fish day’. Don’t blame anyone if you’re not catching fish. Going fishing and catching fish are two different things. Be prepared that fishing can be slow, but still make it an enjoyable trip. Relax, enjoy the scenery and the fact that you’re on the water, and have good conversation. Laugh a lot. Then, if you’re catching fish, and it’s a good ‘catching’ day, that’s a terrific bonus. Be prepared for weather changes.

It's Lake Superior and Northern Minnesota. Those 2 in combination can create interesting weather at any time. Bring enough clothes to add or subtract as the temps and the wind require. Take some Dramamine with as well if you have a sensitive tummy to waves or if you've not been in big water before. Better safe than sorry

Hiring a charter is the way to go if you are fishing for the first time. They have everything you need and they help you understand what they are doing and why. Even if you book a time in a slower part of the season, they have the knowledge to get you to the places that have the best likelihood of catching fish!

Apparently due to the water temps this time of year, the fish can be very spread out and hard to find. Earlier in the Summer will catch more fish and later in the Summer will give chances at bigger fish, according to our guide.

It was recommended to go as early in the morning as possible for best fishing, but we did catch two at 9am and 1030am! Just being on the boat and out on the lake and taking in the sights was enjoyable when the fish weren't biting!

Fishing is fishing! Some days you catch a lot and some days you make memories! Today we caught some fish and made a ton of memories!

Dress in layers..you will be taking clothes on and off as the weather fluctuates. I think performance wool and a windbreaker are good options.

Luckily the captain knew to spend some time in the harbor. Superior Lake was a little slower on the back 1/2 of the trip.

The weather in Duluth in May is a risk. It can be cold and winding. We were fortunate to have temperatures in the 70's. Be prepared with layered clothing.

We recommend Lopper every time! Hands down greatest experience. I didn't know what to expect but Captain Brody and Reed were very good. We are new customers that will be customers for life!

It could not have been much better. We had a great weather day and caught a lot of fish. Brody and staff were all pro with us. Even if we did not catch much it would have be great.

Find an experienced Captain with boats suitable for the weather and lake conditions. Wear layers of clothing because you can always take more off but you can't put more on.

Lake too calm weather too hot caught 1 fish for 6 people. Gerry and Patricia were great even if the fishing wasnt.

Just remember your sweatshirt in the morning. And drinking a couple beers seemed to help the fish start biting!

Probably look for a June trip. We knew a later July trip may not be as good of fishing. But it was the time that worked for us as a group.

The warm water had the fish scattered but we still caught and lost some. The Captain suggested some other times of the year to target certain fish. Would definitely going again.

Any time you catch a fish it's a great outing. Would we have loved to have to stop because we hit our limit? -- of course. But we did catch a very nice Lake Trout.
