Weather stopped us from salmon fishing on lake Michigan, but we were still able to fish for fresh water drum on the smaller lake (forgot the name). Disappointed we couldn't bring some fish home to eat, but that's not the captain's fault.

Do not expect limits. Limits are always just a bonus. Expect to catch some nice quality fish, and trust your captain and their crew. Always remember, it’s not about limits, it’s about the experience.

Make sure the water is going to be calm ish. Take plenty of motion sickness pills, and make sure you have the actual strength to real in each fish. Not that you can control what you catch. But only 1 person in our party had the strength and stamina to real in each fish that was caught. The 2 smallest fish brought in the boat. Coincidentally was sure luck. But dad was spent the rest of the morning.

My Captain says fishing in May (and April) are the best time if you want to be catching and not just fishing. It seems that Salmon is a bit harder to time, but Lake Trout seem abundant in May. We like Lake Trout, so it is not a disappointment.

Be prepared to have a blast and empty your freezers prior to coming up here because you will need the space after the trip.

Holland is a great port with a short channel and great views. The marina is easy to get to, parking is easy.
I would not fish anywhere else in West Michigan than Holland myself.

James Edmonds
I definitely would. We drove up from South Haven and will continue to drive up to Holland for charters with this crew.

This was my first time on Lake Michigan, it was a good time but I don't have anything to compare to.

You can't control mother nature and be prepared to alter plans. Regardless you will have fun and catch something.

If you're concerned with motion sickness, this was a great 3-hr trip with no problems with motion sickness. Also, we had 8, 10, and 12 year olds who loved this charter.

We were told that June can be a very hit or miss month. The previous day’s trip ended with 0 caught and we ended ours, less than 24 hours later, with 8.

Arrive before 6am as this is the start time. Not 7am. Fish were active and feeding early.

Call Captain Tim at Powderhorn -- very professional and engaging. He knows his stuff!
