What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Tampa, Florida for the first time?

My suggestion would be to start out simple, become familiar with the water body and I hire a captain and good luck. Relax, be open minded and just have fun. If you listen to exactly what the captain tells you, you will get a catch almost every time. If you don’t catch anything at least enjoy the experience. Happy fishing!

We were a couple of weeks early from a water temperature perspective for catching some of the larger species, but the captain knew we were looking to catch and release for fun, so he put us in perfect position to have constant action all day with the right locations, bait and setup. Communication in advance is important so you know what will likely be running during your trip in March because of the changeover in water temperature.

If you fish in the summer, the best time is early morning. We started around 7:30am and if possible as soon as the sun rose. It gets really hot.

We had a lot of reeled in fish and hits but can't speak to how it compares to other months. The captain did a good job putting us where we wanted to be.

Check to see if any events going on before booking. There was a lot of boaters on the water. Which may have contributed to our limited catches.

Book the AM trip before the sun gets too hot. A tad cold heading out to the fishing spot but once settled it was a perfect weather.

Seeing dolphins and Manatee was also well worth the trip. The excitement of trying to catch the big one captain Dave was amazing. So much fun
