What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for the first time?

If fishing inshore or nearshore, bring bug repellant as the gnats can be a bit much to deal with.

Dress in layers because it can be cold on the water. Ware tennis shoes and sun glasses. Captain provided us fresh bait and did the baiting of the hooks.

Weather can be unpredictable (as expected), but if you are flexible with dates/times, it is worth the effort.

For novice folks, this kind of inshore bottom fishing trip is fantastic. Never know what you’re going to pull up!

My skill is limited, was honest and the Captain built the trip around that information. AM is what I like but the tide is what you want, movement so the fish are biting. Best of luck.

Don’t go in august. Water is too hot to catch fish. Captain was good but he can’t control the weather.

I am very inexperienced deep sea fishing and my husband is more experienced. We both had a great time!

Find a pro who charters trips and work direct with them and listen to their directions. They are a pro for a reason.

Be patient and have a good time. Enjoy the overall experience. It is not just about catching fish but also about fellowship with one another.

Bring plenty of sunscreen and water for your trip. Keep your mind open to catching all types and sizes of fish.

Go chartered first. They can give you so much knowledge. Plus being in the boat is so much more freeing and fun!

If you have never fished in Hilton Head before I would recommend a private charter if you can. We have tried group charters and we felt like the private charter is the way to go.

Difficulty catching anything other than sharks, Captain Nate told us it was breeding season for sharks and we were unable to really catch anything but that.

Be sure to get an experience captain and let them know in advance. What type of fishing you would like to do

Enjoy the time on the water. Captain can't control the bite they can only try to put you on the best spots they know the fish have been.

Game fish don’t run in the high temp water but plenty of trout, red fish and bonnet heads to have great time.

Highly recommend to go early as it was super hot very quickly. We would love to try again when the average daily temp isn’t 95 degrees.

Hilton Head Island and the surrounding Low Country is a beautiful part of the South with good fishing all year round.

If you are looking to target certain species then choose you time of year wisely. Summer is hot and you may or may not get on the bite you want. Very beautiful place

Make sure to communicate with your captain well before the trip. Rodney was responsive and flexible with our requests.

Due to warm waters we could only fish for shark. We would have had to go much farther from shore to have other options. I would recommend the trip we made for other times of the year.

It's called fishing, not catching, for a reason. Enjoy the experience and time with family/friends.

Be prepared for the heat, take your sunscreen and hats. Loads of knowledge of location for catching the fish and fast collection of the bait for the day.

It’s well worth the money to hire a professional so that in 4 hours time you can catch multiple varieties of fish as well as learn history of the area

You will fish for shark and tarpon on this trip. If you want another experience, book another boat. We had a blast but it is work.
