The weather is ALWAYS a factor on Lake Erie. Of the fifteen or so charters taken, a third have been cancelled due to the weather. Check in the evening before to see what's happening.
Some captains only troll or drift so if you want to do something else, make sure to ask before booking.

Make sure the website for your Charter doesn't have a lot of false advertising like mine did. There was not a bathroom on board, there was no "First Mate" to help out, there were no drinks "water" as advertised and the Captain told me that everyone had to have an Ohio fishing license. It also states right on the booking website that the license is included with the trip.So overall the Baby-bear website has a lot of "False advertising" on it.

Check the 10 or 14 day weather forecast; sure, it can change but it gives a fairly good idea of what you can expect. Be careful w/ your charter choice - read the reviews. There are some unsavory outfits with a "pay up, shut up, get on the boat and I'll get you on some fish" mindset. Check out the Port Clinton Fish Market fish cleaning service; they are fast, very reasonably priced and easy to work with.

Hire a professional charter first time out to learn the waters and study the techniques employed. You should be able to get the hang of things after a charter or two. Then you should be able to set off on your own. Just don't wander too far out at first. Tight lines!!

If this is your first fishing trip here I would highly recommend booking a day or two out with Captain Terrance. He knows the best area to fish and catch fish. He is safe, friendly, funny and knowledgeable of the local area.

Depending on your experience, choose a Capt. & boat to fit your needs. Capt. Kevin is an
excellent fisherman and great for someone with some walleye experience. More personal
and successful in the smaller boats 3 persons.
John Kenton
It was hard finding right away but Shawn did a great job finding them. Once he did watch out.

Recommend cold beer, sunscreen, and anti nausea medicine (Dramamine or Bonine) and fishing with Lured In Charters.

Check with Kenny for best times per species. The man has his finger on the bite and where they are!! Outcast fishing charters....simply the best!!

I would highly recommend Port Clinton with their accessible marinas, ports, lodging and their catering to the charter business, their captains and visitors.

First time fishing in Port Clinton, I would tell you to go in May or June. Later in the summer is a little weather pending. still good fishing just might not be every day.
Alex Airulla
September seems to be in between peak walleye and perch season, but we were still able to catch both.

Make sure you understand the fish cleaning aspect. If you come from far away, it is essential to know what's up!!

Make sure you select the right charter. Some of these guys are uptight and will make the charter seem like a chore, others will treat it like an experience.

If you are fishing in the Port Clinton area, make sure to contact Triple S Walleye Charters. They will put you on the fish.

Easy to get to. Fishing spots are very close to the dock. Caught lots of fish too! I'd recommend Vitamin Sea and Captain Nick.

Make sure to bring some layers or rain gear, it is a little chilly on the water when the wind picks up a bit

Talk to your captain about Jig Fishing and Trolling in the same day. It's the perfect time of year to do both if the Jig fishing bite is still good....

I would highly recommend getting a charter boat and going out for some great eating lake erie walleye.

Be ready for great action. Even though it was raining we caught a cooler full and had a blast catching and releasing many large fish.

Don't anticipate loading up on walleye. We kept marking them on sonar but none would commit to biting.

The size of the boat and the engine largely determines how fast and how far you can go during your time. We plan to come back in June next year, instead of July.

The bay cat fishing trip can't be beat if you want to catch lots of fish in a short amount of time. Kids have little patience and they certainly get lots of action on this trip !

An experienced crew is worth it. They knew local spots for where to stay, where to eat and where to get fish cleaned

Lake Erie is the best fishing spot around. There is such a variety of fish that no matter who you are there is something for you. You can catch fish all year-round.

Use the address for maps, the name of the campground sent me to a different place

Port Clinton is the Walleye capital of the world. What else do ya need to know?

Just realize that perch are smaller fish. No fight in them and very “basic” fishing.

Make damn sure you booked with Captain Frank Sherry & South if Heaven Guide Service.
