A nice change of pace fishing in areas where the red tide isn't as prevelant led me to Marco Island. Yes, there were small amounts of red tide nearby but overall it continues to be a productive fishery. Great sized bait off of the beach gave my clients ample opportunity to catch a wide variety of fish species. Until Estero Bay bounces back enough, Id like to encourage my clients to venture to new waters with me and have an experience of a lifetime.

This past week on all of my charters there was non-stop action. Almost every single fishing spot we stopped at produced a lot of quality fish. Bait was plentiful, water temperatures were up, and the strong full moon incoming tide made the fish hungry. The fish should cooperate next week and respond the same way to the upcoming tides. Call and ask what time and tides are best!

The outgoing tide can limit a lot of anglers to where they can fish. Fortunately, I have a boat that can draft shallow enough to get me and my clients far enough into the backwaters where the fish are holding. Live shrimp produced a great bite and allowed us to catch several species of fish in one trip. Fishing in areas where no other angler can get to is an amazing experience, especially when you're catching fish in just inches of water. Estero will continue to get better and the next cold front should congregate these fish closer together.

We started the morning in the backwaters working the last two hours of the outgoing tide. Bait was plentiful and as soon as we started fishing, the bite was on. Several decent sized redfish, jacks, and ladyfish were caught one after another. Once the tide slacked, I moved out into the Gulf and found a pod of Spanish mackerel. As soon as the bait would hit the water, a fish would be on. After several fish were caught, hammerhead sharks, lemon sharks, bull sharks, and cobia showed up. After landing a couple of sharks, we decided to head back in to fillet the fish in the cooler.
"Cold" Front Action

Fort Myers has experienced an amazing cold front making the big inshore gamefish hungry. Bait has been plentiful with pilchards and shrimp being my go-to bait. The backwaters are holding the warmer water temperatures, forcing fish to move and forage in these areas. On this particular trip the smaller redfish were honed in on live shrimp, but the larger fish wanted live pilchards. Snook wanted big baits only, so no shrimp were used while targeting them. Tarpon were still very active because the water temperature didn't make a dramatic drop yet.
