I booked the 8-hour offshore trip for the four of us, but with small craft warnings, a strong ENE wind, and 10-foot seas forecasted as our date neared, that wasn’t going to happen.  I asked if we could go inshore (Indian River) instead of cancelling, and Captain Mike agreed.  It was a “tough bite” all day, but thanks to Mike, we had an absolutely wonderful day of fishing and exploring the areas (mostly) protected from the wind.  We caught a lot of varieties of smaller fish and a couple of big ones, while getting (very) up close to dozens of manatees, dolphins, pelicans, ospreys, and other water birds.  The mangrove coves were especially fascinating, with the constant presence of manatees, dolphins, and pelicans around the boat.  Mike’s knowledge of the likely areas for gamefish paid off when he found a school of large black drum fish.  Two of us managed to land nice ones, and we all had good action.  Mike never stopped working to take care of us and make sure we had the right equipment and bait for the target species. 

I would recommend Captain Mike Atwill for anyone of any age or experience level who wants to fish the Port Canaveral area of Florida.  He is an excellent fishing guide, but more importantly, a really good guy!

Hit the reef 25miles out in rough/salty waters, salty is what the pros call getting water boarded I guess! 😆 Other than getting a free shower had a wonderful time w/captain Mike, he can drive the piss out of that little 26’ and tried hosting hardest to put us on some giants, but sometimes the giants are shy, caught plenty of runts, just no monster, which is perfectly fine by me, ya can’t sleigh them every time out, and a bad day fishing is always 100x better than a good day at work! I loved seeing the Trident subs, baby leatherneck, and the local history lesson!

Weather was not great, Captain Mike did a great job finding us some fish! Everyone caught something and the service was excellent to say the least. 5 in the boat and everyone had bate all the time. Fish were taken off quickly and the poles were back in the water. Mike also put my son onto a massive fish he fought for over an hour before the line gave way. Bummer, but awsome experience. We are already trying to find a time we can book again. If the weather was better, I can only imagine how fun it would be. Great trip Mike, Thanks!
