What to Expect
With a range of reefs and depths, Key Largo reef fishing charters cater to beginners and experts alike. Choose between a half day, three-quarter day, and full day trip. Beginners and families may prefer shorter trips to familiarize yourselves with the waters, while pros can spend more time on the water.
With the fishing grounds so close, you won’t waste a single second. Start filling the boat right away. Beginners will learn all about bottom fishing, and you may also have the chance to watch the trolling lines in action.
Most trips take place aboard a center console. These boats give a 360-degree view, enabling you to follow your fish as you battle it out. The more experienced among you can engage in sight casting in these clear blue waters.
Key Largo reef fishing charters will give you the chance to fill the freezer. Whether you’re a novice or pro, you’re sure to land plenty of delicious fish. Go after Hogfish, Mangrove, Mutton, and Yellowtail Snappers, as well as Gag, Red, and Black Groupers for a special treat at the end of the day.
If you’re looking to test your skills, there’s no shortage of tough-fighting fish, either. Target Goliath Groupers, Barracuda, Kingfish, Amberjacks, and many more on the patch reefs and wrecks.
How to Prepare
Most Key Largo reef fishing charters also offer inshore or offshore trips. Some captains may ask you to let them know which trip you’d like. If that’s the case, then get in touch to tell them where you want to fish and how much experience you have on the water.
All the necessary fishing tackle will be waiting for you on board. Your captain may prepare live bait beforehand or you may catch it on the way to the fishing grounds.
You can expect some complimentary water on board to keep you hydrated, but bring your own drinks and snacks, too. Other than that, just make sure to bring some shades, long sleeves, a hat, and sunscreen to protect from the sun, and settle in for a thrilling day on the pristine waterways!

The character and approach of the captain matters. Captain needs to listen to his customers and not choose what suits him better. I would highly recommend Jason even if we would have no fish on the boat but we did .

We really deferred to Pete’s expertise on where to go and when. He gave us a call on our first scheduled day and said the seas were going to be rough, and suggested that while he’d be happy to take us out, we might want to reschedule. Glad he did that as the day we went was perfect.

Fellow anglers, you really need to be prepared by wearing a hat, good UV blocking sunglasses, suntan lotion, bug spray, boat shoes, and perhaps a light weight long-sleeved fishing shirt with a hood. If you think anyone in your party might be susceptible to motion sickness then make sure you bring Bonine or Dramamine. Happy fishing.

Be patient and help find the fish!! We looked for weed lines, structure, anything that holds fish. Stay alert because when you find them it gets wild pulling Mahi off a giant school of fish! I have fished here several times but this was my first Rodeo. Gotta have baits in the water to catch them. :-). Go get em.

The summer is busy along with winter season - book your fishing trips out by a couple months as you don’t want to not get on that water! And don’t forget about mini open lobster season in July as it will be very busy!

It is super hot in Key Largo in June. If you're fishing it will be deep sea trolling, otherwise you'll pass out from the sun. Go in an earlier month for reef fishing.
