Panama City Beach Shark fishing enthusiasts, we got some news for you. You are about to hook up on some predators that will make your reels scream. If you are up to a challenge, test your stamina and catch a Shark of a lifetime.
When to go Shark fishing
Shark fishing is great just about anywhere in the Panama City Beach area. Head to the Gulf of Mexico or stay in the St. Andrews Bay System. Sharks enjoy spending their days there!
Panama City Beach has hundreds of wrecks, which in turn attract large schools of bait. Obviously, when it comes down to the toothy monsters, they prey on something like Cobia and Tarpon. Those can be found relatively close to shore, which is great news for the beginners and avid surf fishermen alike.
Shark fishing is exceptional year-round with a few exceptions. Mako Sharks bite best during the spring months. They hang out close to shore in the bay, waiting for the tides which bring baitfish.
However, fishing for Sharks from charter boats is way cooler. And it’s even better when you go out at night.
The season peaks in late spring and continues through late summer. Instead of keeping Sharks as a side target, book a half or a full-day Shark fishing trip. It goes without saying that a monster hunt is safe only with a professional.
How to tackle Sharks
Panama City Beach is home to Hammerhead, Sand, Nurse, Tiger, Sand, Blacktip, and Bull Sharks, as well as Great White.
Tiger Sharks, just like any other Shark, would be attracted to anything that is bloody. The first bet is Bonito and then you have Ladyfish, King Mackerel, Mullet, and Bluefish. You can feel free to use the whole fish or just chunks if you are not too generous.
Chumming is the most popular technique. Once you have your chum slick set, the waiting game begins. It’s when you hear the ‘click, click’ when you know that the show is on.
