If you haven’t been fishing on the of California, you’re missing out. Even more so, if you’ve never experienced the superb Salmon fishing San Francisco Bay is famous for. Going after Chinook Salmon in the calm waters of the bay is the best way to spend your time if you’re a passionate fisherman.
These silvery bad boys are called the King of all Salmon for a good reason. Their acrobatics and fighting abilities earned them the title, as well as the fact that they’re among the most delicious fish on the planet. Your catch can weigh anywhere from 10–40 pounds, depending on the time of year and your luck.
From April to October every year, Chinook frequent the waters of the San Francisco Bay on the way to their spawning areas in the freshwater rivers and streams. The “Salmon Highway” runs straight through the bay, and this is where you may just find your biggest King yet.
And because Salmon fishing is so popular here, there are many charters and guides that specialize in going after these hard-fighting fish. Going on full day (8+ hours) expeditions will improve your chances of catching your limit and maybe even landing your next trophy. Trip prices vary, and you can pay anywhere from $200 per person on “potluck trips” up to $1,500 for a private charter. The prices also depend on how many people will be fishing.
Aside from putting you on the hottest bite and sharing tips, your captain will have all the fishing equipment ready for you. On your to-do list is to buy a valid fishing license and bring enough food and drinks to last through the whole day of fishing action. Salmon fishing in the San Francisco Bay is already the stuff of legends, and something you can experience this fishing season.

Leaving from Fisherman's Wharf passing Alcatraz, seeing the sun come up over the east bay ills, watching the yacht regatta, passing all the freighters and cruise ships, going under the bridges, seeing the rising sun reflected off the skyscrapers; it's a gorgeous place to catch BIG fish.
