Blue Marlin fishing on the nine-island chain of the Azores is hottest from the small port of Horta on Faial Island. Blue Marlins caught here tend to be larger than average, often weighing in somewhere between 400-600lbs, with 'granders' (fish weighing over 1000lbs) caught every year. Boats usually travel about 20 nautical miles out to the Condor Bank in order to target the species, with another good calm weather Blue Marlin spot being the Princess Alice Bank, roughly 42 nautical miles from shore. Many IGFA Blue Marlin records have been recorded from the Azores, including the 50 and 80 pound line class.
Although the Azores was badly affected by the El Nino event of 1996-7, Blue Marlin fishing has now returned to what it was prior to the mid nineties.

Hey it's not blue marlin offshore like in the summer but it's fun and consistent action with tasty fish for an incredible price in an unbelievable landscape, you should absolutely do this trip. The guides are top notch, extremely knowledgeable, helpful and a ton of fun. Great taste in music.
