Bonefishing in Florida lets you experience the flats in a very special way. These “Grey Ghosts” are notoriously difficult to find and even harder to catch. One sudden move and these elusive fish are gone within the blink of an eye. Florida’s  clear waters allow them to see any approaching angler surprisingly well. Catching a Bonefish in the flats of southern Florida is truly something to be proud of!

These fish are not the biggest, usually ranging in size between 2–10 pounds. But once you hook one, you’ll be surprised at how fast they’ll take off with your entire fishing line. Since they spook so easily, the best way to catch them is by poling your boat through the water or wading on foot.

One of the main fishing techniques for bonefishing is spinning. Spinning is accessible for almost any angler and is a great way to test your fishing skills. If you want to take it up a notch, you can try your luck with a fly rod. Live bait and any flies that imitate shrimp or crabs are the best choices to lure Bonefish in.

The most famous place to go bonefishing in Florida is no doubt Islamorada. No other place boasts as many Bonefish records as these five islands in the Keys. The peak season for Bonefish here is from March to October. Key West and Miami are two other bonefishing hotspots.
