Dana Point is one of the most popular inshore fishing spots in SoCal with Halibut, Calico Bass, White Seabass, Sheepshead, and Sand Bass all on your doorstep. Head to nearby Newport Beach and you’ll find all this and more in the kelp beds, including Yellowtail, Bonito, and Barracuda.
Passionate offshore anglers have a lot to look forward to when they cast their lines in Orange County’s abundant waters. San Clemente and Santa Catalina Islands are the fishing grounds of choice for species like Yellowtail, Calico Bass, and even Tuna during the summer months. The bluewaters 50+ miles out offer up even more action with Sharks, Mahi Mahi, and Marlin lurking in the deep.
Don’t worry freshwater anglers, we didn’t forget about you. There are countless fishing holes to explore, and Irvine Lake is by far the most popular. More Rainbow Trout are caught here than anywhere else in California! Catfish, Crappie, and Bass are also biting left and right.
If you’re coming with kids or want to keep it short and sweet, head out for a half day inshore trip. For more dedicated anglers who want to explore the full potential of these prolific waters, a full or extended full day trip is a must. In these cases, Santa Catalina Island is your most frequent location, however, you’ll have the option to go even further out for truly monster fish.
