St. Augustine can be cold and windy in February considering it is North Florida. Even a little chop can cause you to get splashed or wet so the larger boats are so much dryer and comfortable to get away from getting splashed and the wind. The larger the boat the less wind rain and splashing you will get. Offshore on smaller crafts one side of the boat will get wet on the way out while the other side will get wet on the way in.

We had a good day on the water and caught fish, but I would have liked more hands on time. Capt. Will and Caleb did 90% of the fishing then gave us the rod once a fish was on to bring it in. As someone who loves to fish, I would have liked to have been more involved in the fishing. This isn’t my first charter, but next time I charter a fishing trip, I’ll ask some specific questions to make sure we get to cast, hold a rod, and bring in the fish. Boat, Captain and first mate were all good.

Ever get that thing when something you planned is coming up and feels anticlimactic? This trip was awesome even with that foreshadowing. Alden our guide is a good dude and knows his stuff. He explained why and where we were and was comfortable to be around as the whole trip was comfortable. Myself and my son had a great time with sergeant Dean miller and reed. Unlike other charter company's where you are treated as a client, We were treated as friends. Capt. Chris and mate Kathy were awesome! Caught a wide variety of catch including Red Snapper, Sea Bass, Grouper, Gray Snapper, Shark, Triggerfish and a Jack. Also saw a lot of other fish and marine animals including Spadefish, King Mackerel, Manta Ray, Leatherback Turtle and a large pod of Atlantic Spotted Dolphin who swam along side of the boat for a long time on our way back to the dock. It was an awesome day for my wife and myself.

We had 3 generations on the boat with Capt. Mike for our Florida trip this year, and Island Fishing Charters did not disappoint! Capt. Mike was great with the kids and got us into fish all morning. Everyone caught fish and we ended up with 11 species total, including a 7.5 lb flounder! Capt. Mike cleaned our keepers and we had Flounder, Pompano and Bluefish for dinner that night! My wife and I had a great time with Will and Jake on our afternoon trip. I liked being on a private trip compared to the bigger group charters. Despite windy conditions, they got us anchored well in a couple of spots. We had lots of bites, and caught a pair of really nice red fish. They were extremely knowledgeable and we would go again!
