This was a wonderful experience for my family! We felt so lucky to get Captain Jim and Talon for our trip, they really made it for us. They were kind, patient, more than helpful, and made the day so much fun. With little prior fishing experience, my kids were a little bit nervous, but they were quickly set at ease and had a blast. One of the very best parts of our trip to Alaska. We caught our limit of good size halibut in only two hours because they knew exactly where to go. They helped us catch our limit of fish, and then took us to see a pod of whales for the remainder of our time. Jim was so knowledgeable about the ocean as a marine biology major and answered all of our questions and taught us so many cool things. He learned all of our names right off the bat! Talon’s around the age of my kids and he was a great sport about answering all their questions about life in Alaska and showing us everything we needed to do. Very polite and super fun to be around. All in all, it was an excellent experience and wonderful memory, and we’re so glad we had the chance to do it with them.

This was my first time with Big Jim’s charter and the fishing trip was a blast. The boat FV Petryl was amazing, so clean and comfortable. Captain Jan and deckhand Finn made us feel safe. They were awesome and worked really hard to get us on some fish. Finn was also great a great sport with answering a thousand questions from our kiddo and kept him entertained 😀. This trip was unforgettable especially for our parents first time in AK. Mom caught a huge halibut and Dad caught nice King.

Definitely would plan a trip with this crew again for some top-notch fishing. Captain Jan even helped us process the fish and freezed it to pick up the next day. Amazing!

We did the 3/4 day with halibut & salmon. Captain Jim & his deckhand Talon were both amazing. All four of us caught halibut in no time! Of course, my crew never heard the end of it since I caught the largest halibut!! We went to a few other spots that were a little overrun with pinks, but our final spot of the day, one of us pulled in a beautiful King Salmon! We had one person who had never been fishing before, two novices, & one more experienced person. Everyone had a blast and everyone caught something. It was an amazing day!!

We are on a cruise ship. We had a fishing excursion booked for Icy Straits. It got canceled because of big waves. Our next stop was Juneau. We fortunately had no excursions planned and immediately called Big Jim’s fishing to see if we could get a fishing trip for next day. Within 3 hours we got reply we could get a half day of fishing in. Fishing was excellent, weather was great, Captain John and First mate Tim were awesome!! Highly recommend!!!

Amazing trip! I am not a fisherman and so I started the day with trepidation— waking up early, rainy weather, possibility of being seasick, not catching anything, getting lost, etc. NONE of that was a problem. Jan and Carvin were helpful and considerate. Could not have asked for a better experience. Our grandsons LOVED it. Highly recommended.
