If you’re looking for a charter that can cater to both young, inexperienced anglers and get them hooked on fishing, as well as veterans looking for that dream catch, Barbarossa Excursions has you covered.
Captain Chris Magro owns and operates the “Blue Lagoon” a 40’ custom-built motor cruiser, powered by twin Mann engines with 180 HP each. It can hold a maximum of 15 anglers at the same time. However, Captain Chris recommends that no more than 4 anglers fish at the same time on the offshore trips with trolling, as the lines can get tangled.
The boat comes fully equipped for comfort, with a full-head toilet, fresh-water shower, and a galley. The charter operators also provide the customers with all the required equipment, all you need to bring is the sunscreen. Experienced anglers can bring their own preferred lures if that makes them more comfortable.
The trips will target a variety of local species, depending on the season as well as the location and luck of the sea. The more prestigious species targeted on offshore species include Swordfish and Tuna; though there are plenty of species to be caught.
The charter offers pickup from hotels and other accommodations to the boat and back at the rate of 70 euro per taxi for up to 4 passengers. For up to 12 passengers, a minibus is available at the rate of 90 euros for a return trip. The prices are for return trips and for the vehicles in total, not per passenger.
The charter can depart from Mgarr Harbour in Gozo or from Marfa Jetty in Malta, check with the captain prior to arriving for your convenience.
Captain Chris is keen on teaching young anglers the tricks of his trade, but there is a minimum age policy: 4 and above for inshore trips, while 8 and above are required for offshore fishing trips. The vessel is disabled accessible and all anglers are welcome onboard to enjoy the great fishing Malta has to offer!
