The border area between Costa Rica and Panama is one of only two places in the world where three tectonic plates meet. This creates a ridge rising 2500 feet from the bottom of the sea to just 500 feet below the surface. This creates surges of nutrients that rise from the bottom of the sea and attract Bonito, Yellowfins and, hot on their tails, the Marlin.

You’ll target Marlin, often catching Sailfish, Tuna, and Mahi Mahi as a by-catch (and, in the case of the latter two, a tasty dinner). At night they use underwater lights to fish for Swordfish, Thresher Shark, and Squid. The beauty of multiday trips in the area is that when they find Marlin they can stick to them and start a new day in a proven location.
