Welcome to Mighty Heron Charters! Voted best charter fishing boat by the readers of the Ocean City Sentinel for 2021.

Capt. Mikes is the primary captain/guide.
This crew simply loves to fish and can accommodate anglers of any age and experience level. They take great pride in setting up a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and helping you every step of the way. For the experienced, results-driven angler, they’re ready. They provide high-quality bait and tackle and always works hard to put you on the fish.

Capt. Mike is a native of the Cape - Atlantic area and has 50 years of experience fishing the waters around Ocean City, from the back creeks to the canyons. He has been a USCG-licensed, full-time professional captain, guide, and mariner for 18 years. His experience includes towing vessels, oil spill response vessels, and fire/rescue vessels.

Fish onboard a 28’ Steiger Craft that accommodates up to 6 guests. She’s powered by twin 250 HP Yamaha engines, has the latest Garmin electronics, and has a private toilet. The vessel is inspected by USCG.

During summer, you can target flounder, weakfish, and other species on the back bays or the ocean. On this same ocean trip, you may also target smaller tunas, sharks, and cobia during the warmer months. You can also head offshore for tuna, mahi, and wahoo.

The Spring and Fall offer Striped Bass, Seabass, and Tog on ocean structures. As appropriate, you jig, cast or troll depending on what is working.

Capt. Mike’s charter has moved to Seaview Harbor Marina, 5 easy minutes from the Ocean City - Longport Bridge and 10 minutes from G.S. Parkway. O.C. pick-up on request.

Mighty Heron Charters doesn’t claim to be the "best" and certainly gives no guarantees. It is, after all, fishing. What they do promise is a professional, organized, experienced, and personable crew and its best efforts to put you on the fish.

    This 2 hour trip is popular with families with young kids. They find 2 hours to be “just right” for introducing them to fishing on a boat. You'll primarily target Flounder, Weakfish, and Bluefish. Other species such as Sea Bass and Sand Sharks are also caught. The marina is minutes from productive fishing grounds, so you can maximize time with “lines in”. The crew has rods that are designed for smaller hands. "Big kids" with limited time will also enjoy this trip. Mates work for tips. 15% is appropriate.

You'll get to enjoy some light tackle action for perch and maybe "schoolie" striper. During April and May, you'll find large striper that has returned to spawning grounds. This trip is available May 1st - May 31st and September 15 - November 15. This trip can start as early as 5:30 a.m. Mates work for tips, 15 - 20% is appropriate.

    You will head out to the 20-30 fathom curve between 30-50 miles out and troll, chunk, or jig for Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo. Bring a container with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. In June, the crew can chase Bluefin and later in the month Mahi. As the summer progresses and the water warms up, the crew catches “football Tuna” along with Mahi and Wahoo. The crew loves pot-hopping. Age 10+ is advised but not required. Mates work for tips, 15 - 20% is appropriate.

    We head out about 70 miles to the canyon zone. Bring a container with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. Trolling, jigging, and chunking for Yellowfin, Bluefin, Mahi, Wahoo, and more. Poor sea conditions or a slim chance of finding fish (we use satellite services to track water temps and other factors) can lead to a trip being canceled with a full refund. 5 persons max. This trip is 14-16 hours. Age 12+ strongly advised. Mates work hard for tips. a 15% gratuity is appropriate.

Hey Gang, On Sunday, we found some dense schools of bunker right off the beach but as what is normal of late there was nothing there except doggies. So we went a little deeper and found some bird play and occasional fish on the surface chasing sand eels. Thanks to our buds on another charter boat we were advised to put out some trolling gear even deeper. It worked. We ended up with a couple “overs”, measuring up to 35”, 4 slot keepers, and 2 bonus in about an hour. Persistence and flexibility to do different things (like things I don’t care for - trolling - ) paid-off. Had our first double-header of stripers on a trolling rig in like, 15+ years. On Monday we had Ken and his dedicated crew of anglers out for stripers. These guys were focused on using top-water, jigs and plastics. The fish were even more scattered than on Sunday and we had a whipping West wind. It was whack-a-mole on sand eels over a large area. We had 4 stripers. 3 in the keeper slot and 1 bonus fish. I have to hand it to these guys. They wanted to actively fish, not troll - which probably would have resulted in more fish. They really worked it. So, we emptied out the boxes. We threw everything - I don't limit myself and more importantly my clients to any one manufacturer in order to receive a piddling discount on gear - and all four fish were taken on sand eel imitators. The weather pattern through the end of the month shows the best days to fish are mid-week. This bite has not even broken wide-open yet. We will return to the Ocean City December 1st. Maybe the stripers will be inside the 3 mile line by the time they move South and maybe they won't. That's the frustration we have had over the past few years and why we moved to Manasquan Inlet for the beginning of the run. This Autumn has been warm and the water temps are slowly falling so we will open up "up the river' striper trips until December 10th and then re-evaluate, based on conditions.
